Gordon E. Carter
September 21, 1921 - February 26, 2010Gordon E. Carter, 88, 200 E. Pope St., died Friday at Wilson Medical Center. He was the son of the late Emmitt and Hepsie Smith Carter. Mr. Carter was a member of Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church. He worked for Garris Grocery Store, Vail Hardware Store, and most recently with Pikeville Auto Parts in Pikeville. He was a retired volunteer fireman with Pikeville-Pleasant Grove Fire Department and was a WWII Army veteran.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Carter will be 7 PM Sunday at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Barry Stallings officiating. Interment will be 11 AM Monday at Pikeville Cemetery.
Surviving is his wife, Frances Mumford Carter; son, Danny Carter and wife Jennette of Pikeville; and a brother, Emmitt Carter of Goldsboro.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home and will be at the residence at other times.
