Goldsboro – Laverle Grantham Batton, 76, passed away on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Laverle was born in Wayne County on October 7, 1933 to the late Luby Franklin Grantham and Esther Mae Rose Grantham. She was married to the late Charles Percy Batton. Laverle was a member of Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church and was a member of the Ambassador Sunday School Class. She was a retired registered nurse at Cherry Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 30, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Bailey and Rev. Barry Williamson officiating. The interment will be Saturday, July 31, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Town of Bunn Cemetery.

Laverle is survived by her daughter, Teresa F. Stanley of Goldsboro; her step-daughter, Jeannette Batton of Riverside, California; her grandson, Charles R. Stanley of Goldsboro; her brothers, Hiram Grantham and wife, Billie of Goldsboro and Jimmy Grantham of Goldsboro; and her sisters, Betsy G. Jones of Mount Olive and Edna Earl Jones and husband John M. of Goldsboro.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Lou Grantham.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be made to the Free Will Baptist Children’s Home at 7907 Buck Deans Road, Middlesex, NC 27557-9380, Pennies from Angels, C/O SMOC at 203 Cox Boulevard, Goldsboro, NC 27534 or the N.C. Board of Foreign Missions, P.O. Box 39, Ayden, NC 28513.

The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
