Philip A. Baddour Sr

Goldsboro – Mr. Philip A. Baddour, Sr., Goldsboro business and civic
leader and city councilman for 16 years, died early Saturday at the
age of 87 after a brief illness. He was the son of the late Shikery
Baddour (founder of Mount Olive Pickle Company) and Victoria Baddour
and came to Goldsboro from Atlantic City, NJ at the age of six
weeks. On October 21, 2001, he and his wife, Louise F. Baddour
celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Mr. Baddour was a downtown merchant for over 30 years and served on
the Goldsboro City Council from 1979 until 1995 when he declined to
offer for another term. During his tenure on the council, he also
served as mayor pro tempore. He was a member of the Goldsboro Host
Lions Club, served as a director of Wayside Fellowship and was the
recipient of the Cancer Society’s Outstanding Crusade Volunteer
Award. When his sons were young, he was active in the Cub Scouts and
Boy Scouts of America at the pack and troop levels. A life long
member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, he was past chairman of
the Parish Council and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr.
Baddour was a veteran of World War II. He was very proud that all
four of his sons graduated from the University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill.
Upon his retirement as a city councilman, Mr. Baddour was honored
with a key to the city of Goldsboro and a resolution from the North
Carolina League of Municipalities for his years of public service.
Governor Jim Hunt honored him as a recipient of the Order of the
Long Leaf Pine.
Mr. Baddour is survived by his wife, Louise Farfour Baddour; four
sons, Philip A. Baddour, Jr. and wife, Margaret, Richard A. Baddour
and wife, Lynda, Stephen Baddour and Neil J. Baddour and wife,
Barbara; grandchildren, Philip A. Baddour, III, Mark L. Baddour,
Helen S. Baddour, Richard A. Baddour, Jr., David B. Baddour,
Jennifer L. Baddour, Kristin L. Baddour, and Amy E. Baddour;
great-grandchildren, Henry C. Baddour and Jack R. Baddour; and
brother, Mitchell Baddour and sister, Mary B. Walker.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Evelyn B. Mauro, Isabel B.
Dixon and Lorraine B. Corbett.
Phil Baddour will always be remembered for his devotion to his
church, family, friends and community.

School, 1000 N. Jefferson Street, Goldsboro, NC 27530 or charity of
one’s choice.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary
Catholic Church with Rev. Tom Norris, O.S.F.S presiding. Burial will
follow in Willow Dale Cemetery.
A wake service will be Sunday at 7 p.m. at St. Mary Roman Catholic
Church with the family receiving friends following the service until
9 p.m. Other times the family will be at the residence. |
