Joseph Edwin Baker

Goldsboro – MSGT (Ret.) U.S.A.F. Joseph Edwin Baker, 73, of 136 Grant Drive, died Monday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

A native of Pulaski, Virginia, he was the son of the late Harley Owen Baker and Beulah Elizabeth Chummley Baker. Mr. Baker retired from the United States Air Force after proudly serving his country for 23 years. He served during the Korean Conflict and had 3 tours of duty during the Vietnam War, during that time he was awarded one silver and two bronze stars. After his military career, Mr. Baker worked with J.P. Stevens and retired from Standard Products.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 12 noon at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. William Ordelt officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Sandhills Veteran Cemetery in Spring Lake, NC.

Mr. Baker is survived by his wife, Ann P. Baker; his children, JoAnne B. Joyner of the home; Barbara Kay B. Scheetz of Hampton, VA, Robert Owen Baker and wife, Karen of Mount Olive and Elizabeth B. “Beth” Gettle and husband, Mark of Goldsboro; his grandchildren, Melissa Koos and husband, Eric, Sara Baker, Alison Baker, Meredith Baker, Lukas Baker, Kelly Gettle and Brett Gettle; a great-grandson, Ryan Koos; and his brothers, H.O. “Buddy” Baker of Roanoke, VA, William A. Baker of Goldsboro, John C. Baker of Alexandria, VA and George D. Baker of Alexandria, VA.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Sivak.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
