Lenwood Earl Benton

Goldsboro – Mr. Lenwood Earl Benton, 82, of 1604 Laurel Street, died Saturday at his home.

A native of Wayne County, he was the son of the late Ben Benton and Ida Wiggins Benton and was the owner and operator of the Downtown Shell Gas Station and Rental Car Business in Downtown Goldsboro. Mr. Benton was also associated for 15 years with Benton Tire and Auto. He was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II and a member of the Goldsboro Masonic Lodge #634 A.F.& A.M.

Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the First Free Will Baptist Church, of which he was a member. Dr. Kenneth Benton and Rev. Norman Ard will officiate. A private burial will be in Willow Dale Cemetery.

Mr. Benton is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gertha G. Benton; his sons, Dr. Kenneth E. Benton and wife Marilyn of Goldsboro, Michael G. Benton of Danville, VA, and Donald K. Benton of Goldsboro; his daughter, Anna B. McFalls and husband Russ of Culpeper, VA; his sister, Eunice Daughtry of Greensboro; eight grandchildren: Christina Compeau, Kendra Miletello and husband Sal, Elizabeth Benton Wright and husband Jonathan, Michael G. Benton, Jr. and wife Lisa, Alison McFalls, Andrew McFalls, Troy Tyson Benton and Lindsey Benton; and six great-grandchildren: Christopher Compeau, Trevor Compeau, Faith Miletello, Hope Miletello, Samuel Miletello and Luke Miletello.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Free Will Baptist Church, 604 E. Ash Street, Goldsboro, NC 27530.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7-9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
