Eva Mae Smith Best


Goldsboro – Eva Mae Smith Best, 78, of 724 Marshall Street, died Sunday at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.

A native of Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Walter Kirby Smith, Sr. and Eva Whitley Smith and was married to the late Marshall Haywood Best. She was a teacher’s aide with Headstart. Mrs. Best was a member of First Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Glenn Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Willow Dale Cemetery.

She is survived by her daughters, Hazel Mae Best of the home; Reba Rae Best Ray of Raleigh and Marsha Best Taylor and husband William R. Taylor III formerly of Goldsboro; granddaughter, Shelley Ray Flores and husband, R. Thomas Flores, Jr. of Goldsboro; a great-grandson, Alexander Kendall Flores; and brother, Walter Kirby Smith, Jr. and wife Lois of Norfolk, VA.

The family will receive friends Tuesday at Seymour Funeral Home from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.
