Dorothy S. Bizzell

Goldsboro – Mrs. Dorothy Shearin Bizzell, of 113 Overbrook Road, died Monday evening.

A native of Nash County, she was the daughter of the late Nick D. and Minnie Qualls Shearin of Rocky Mount and the wife of the late James Wooten Bizzell, M.D. Dot was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and worked for a number of years as a medical technician in Rocky Mount and Goldsboro. She served in the Wayne County Medical Auxiliary, the Episcopal Church Women of St. Francis and as a Girl Scout leader. She was a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church.

A graveside service will be held Thursday at 2:00 PM at Willow Dale Cemetery with the Rev. Frank D. Russ, Jr. and the Rev. John James Ormond officiating.

She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Shearin Bizzell and grandson, Joshua Douglas Bizzell of Cary; a sister, Ida Mae Shearin of Rocky Mount; nieces, Patricia Powell Biggers of Goldsboro and Winifred Newcombe of Stantonsburg, and nephews, Charles Thomas Powell of Bethesda, Maryland, Herbert Nicholas Shearin of Crofton, Maryland, Wiley Henry Shearin, Jr. of Chapel Hill, and Edwin Arthur Shearin of Raleigh.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Arthur Eugene Shearin, Herbert Samuel Shearin, Wiley Henry Shearin and William Bernard Shearin and her sister, Lillie Blanche Shearin.

The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 11406, Goldsboro, NC 27532 or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at her residence.
