Basil James Bowden, Jr.

Dudley – Mr. Basil James Bowden, Jr., 86, of 184 Quail Drive, died Tuesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

A native of Wayne County, he was the son of the late B.J. Bowden, Sr. and Estelle Mae Dawson Bowden and was married to the late Mary Alice Charlton Bowden. Mr. Bowden was a retired Lieutenant Commander with the United States Navy having served in World War II and was also retired from the United States Postal Service with 33 years of service. Mr. Bowden was a member of St. Stephens’s Episcopal Church, the Golden K Kiwanis Club and the Wayne Masonic Lodge #112 A.F. & A.M.

Memorial services will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Eugene Carpenter officiating. Interment will be in the church columbarium. The family will greet friends following the committal service in the church parish hall.

Mr. Bowden is survived by his daughters, Margaret Jean Bowden Armstrong of Rocky Mount and Mary Susan Bowden Osgood of Wilmington; his son, Thomas Marsh Bowden of Raleigh; four grandchildren and two sisters, Lola Bowden Brogden of Knightdale and Estelle Bowden Edmondson of Rocky Mount.
