Mr. John Jacob Birrell Calderbank


   
 (Ret. Col. USAF), 84, died Sunday. A native of Stamford, Conn., he was the son of the late John Henry and Elizabeth Birrell Calderbank.  Mr. Calderbank was a fighter pilot in the United States Air Force flying missions in Europe.  Mr. Calderbank received his Masters Degree in Engineering from Purdue University and was Vice-President of Engineering at Avco Lycoming as well as was chief of the Power Plant Laboratory at Wright Air Development Center in Ohio.  Mr. Calderbank was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church,  Far Eastern Free Masons, Goldsboro Country Club, and was an avid golfer and bridge player.

Memorial services with full military honors were held 3:30 P. M. Tuesday at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. M. Eugene Carpenter officiating.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Yelverton Calderbank; sons, Dr. James B. Calderbank and wife Sandra of Asheville, John C. Calderbank and wife Nancy of Glastonburg, Conn. and David B. Calderbank and wife Judy of Marlborough, N. H.; stepdaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Spring of Kernersville; step-sons, Thomas Courtney Spring of San Francisco, and Charles E. Spring and wife Ann of Arlington, Va.; grandchildren, Jennifier Studer, Douglas
Calderbank, John Andrew Calderbank, and Lizbeth Calderbank; step-grandchildren, Christopher, Thomas,  and Nathanel  Spring.
