Alfred George Charbonneau

WALNUT CREEK -- Alfred George Charbonneau, 77, of 614 Lake Shore
Drive, died early Monday morning at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
A mass of celebration will be held at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic
Church on Thursday at 11 a.m. A family memorial service will be held
at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Seymour Funeral Home. Following the
service, the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. and at
other times in the home.
He is survived by his wife, Frances; children, Dennis Charbonneau
and wife, Debbie of Jordan, Ark., Susan Kemper of Climax, Lois Rains
and husband, Steve of Goldsboro, Janet Parks and husband, Blaine
aboard the S/V
Charbonneau; grandchildren, Amanda and Jessica Rains of Chapel Hill,
Stephanie Rains of Goldsboro, Jennifer Kemper of Climax; brother,
Edward Charbonneau and wife, Doris of Sun City, Ariz., and many
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Charbonneau and
Alfrieda Charbonneau Falgier; son, Paul Charbonneau; and sister,
Margaret Lanski.
A native of Adams, Mass., he served in the United States Navy in the
European and Pacific Theatres during World War II on different ships
and on a flagship during the invasion of Normandy. He also attended
the New England School of Art following his military service.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church where he served
as a Eucharistic minister, head usher and a member of various
committees including the church council and finance committee.
As one of the leading founders of the Village of Walnut Creek, he
was elected as the Village’s first mayor, serving from 1975 to 1979.
He was an avid golfer and a member of Walnut Creek Country Club.
