William D. Claiborne, Sr.


Fremont – Mr. William David Claiborne, Sr., 75, formerly of Fremont, died Tuesday at Wilson Medical Center.

A native of Clarksville, VA, he was the son of the late Charlie Claiborne and Beadie C. Claiborne and was married to the late Jean Speed Claiborne. Mr. Claiborne is a retired civil engineer with the United States Air Force and was a member of Fremont Missionary Baptist Church.

Graveside services with full military honors will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery, Oxford, N. C. with Pastor Powell Dew officiating.

Mr. Claiborne is survived by his daughter, Hettie Lou Gallagher and husband Jim of Goldsboro; his sons and daughters-in-law, William D. Claiborne, Jr. and wife, Nola of Pikeville and Benjamin C. Claiborne and wife, Christine of Pikeville; his brother, Lawrence Claiborne of Clarksville, VA; seven grandchildren, Lauren Claiborne, Morgan Wilson, Christian Claiborne, Carlin Claiborne, Miles Claiborne, Benjamin Sasser and Jonathan Sasser; and his great-grandchildren, Eli Sasser and Emma Jean Wilson

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Fremont Missionary Baptist Church, 300 E. Carolina Street, Fremont, NC 27830.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Bill Claiborne, 101 Wayne Court, Pikeville.
