Doris Butts Coker

 

LaGrange – Mrs. Doris Butts Coker, 77, of 1350 LaGrange Road, went home to be with her Heavenly Father Wednesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

A native of Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Cleveland Butts and Blanche McKeel Butts and was married for 56 years to the late Leon Coker. Mrs. Coker was a devoted homemaker, mother, grandmother and was loved by many. She was a faithful member of Clingman Street Church of God for over 50 years, where she taught Sunday school for more than 35 years and was past president of the Ladies Ministries. Mrs. Coker was also awarded Mother of the Year in 1979, 1987 and 1991.

A Service in Mrs. Coker’s memory will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Clingman Street Church of God with Rev. Joseph Leonard officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in LaGrange.

Mrs. Coker is survived by her, sons, Leon Cleveland Coker and wife, Becky Weisemiller Coker of Kinston, Larry "Bud" Coker and wife, Pam Herring Coker of Goldsboro, Jerry Harold Coker and wife, Trudy Gray Coker of Goldsboro and Donald Renay Coker and wife, Felicia Worrell Coker of Goldsboro; daughters, Cathy Rhodes and husband, Roger of Goldsboro, Wendy Rhodes and husband, Michael of Goldsboro and Priscilla Frederick and husband, Greg of Goldsboro; a daughter-in-law, Connie Wynn Coker of Goldsboro; a sister, Vernelle S. Quinn of Goldsboro; ten grandchildren, Doug Coker, Amy Peele, Tracy Coker, Amber Coker, Dustin Rhodes, Larry Wayne Coker, Chris Coker, Ryan Coker, Darcie Rhodes and Lindsey Frederick; and many special friends.

Mrs. Coker was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Glenn Coker; and brothers, "Dink", Ray and Earl Butts and Rex Smith.

The family will receive friends Friday at Seymour Funeral Home from 7-9 p.m. and other times at the residence.
