Ruby Maness Cooke

Goldsboro –
Mrs. Ruby Maness Cooke died Wednesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital of
Goldsboro. She was currently a resident of The Pines of Goldsboro,
and prior to that, resided at 206 Mourning Dove Lane in Deerwood.
Mrs. Cooke was born on August 21, 1921, to Claudis Ellis Maness and
Mamie Victoria Maness in Fayetteville. She was widowed by James
Steven Draughon in 1960 and by Harold Smith Cooke on February 21,
1989.
Mrs. Cooke is survived by her son, James Ellis Draughon and wife
Barbara Comer of Swansboro; her daughters, Vicky D. Griffin and
husband Rev. Ernest Otto (Jr.) of Seven Springs and Betty D. Edwards
and husband Ralph Daniel of Goldsboro. Mrs. Cooke had nine
grandchildren and seven and 1/2 great-grandchildren. She is also
survived by three sisters, Mary Dolly Parker of South Carolina,
Claudie Mae Jopson of Pennsylvania and Peggy Victoria Pollard of
Fayetteville.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Kerbel Danie Maness, Coolidge
Poindexter Maness and Ira Belmont Maness and sisters, Willie Thelma
Milligan, Betty Lee Gunter and Jean Olean Irvin.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Spring Creek Baptist
Church Church with Rev. E.O. Griffin, Jr. officiating. A reception
of friends and family will precede the service from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.
at the church. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the Kitty Askins
Hospice Center, on behalf of the Southeastern Oncology Center of
Goldsboro, at 2402 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
