Hubert Avery Davis, Sr.

Goldsboro-Hubert Avery Davis Sr., 90, of Seven Springs, died Friday at Britthaven of Goldsboro. Mr. Davis was born in Duplin County to the late Charlie and Nannie Byrd Davis and was preceded in death by his wife of fifty seven years, Lois Spence Davis. He was a charter member of Walker Memorial United Methodist Church where he served as a board member, superintendent, Sunday School Teacher and a Youth Director for many years. He farmed and worked with the NC Department of Transportation. He later worked with the Wayne County Public School System at Seven Springs and Spring Creek where he was known as "Grandaddy".

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. from Seymour Funeral Home with Rev. T.C. West officiating. Burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.

Mr. Davis is survived by two sons, H. Avery Davis Jr. and wife, Joyce of Goldsboro, C.G. Davis and wife, Sheila of Monroe; two daughters, Shelby Jean Kearney of Seven Springs, Peggy Ann Laws and husband, Al of Goldsboro; fourteen grandchildren, Dwight, Donna, Sherrie, Lawrence, Franklin, Bonnie, Larry, Judy, Rick, Melanie, Robby, Al, Denise and Rhonda; twenty two great-grandchildren, Noah, Mandy, Rebeccah, Anna, Tommy, Katrina, Travis, Cole, Kris, Jessica, Katie, Bethany, Andrew, Michelle, Kelly, Robyn, Chase, Carson, Jennifer, Josh, Robert and Renee’; five great great-grandchildren, Gauge, Kristen, Thomas, Madison and Trey; special care giver; Donna Williford; along with many special nieces and nephews; a special thanks to Dr. John Inzerillo. Mr. Davis was preceded in death by a baby girl; two grandsons, Tim Davis and Will Davis; son-in-law, Johnny "Bird" Kearney; three brothers, Ottis Davis, Charlie W. Davis and Perry Davis; six sisters, Mattie Smith Rollins, Bessie Price, Sudie Jones, Annie Mae Davis, Beulah Davis and Eula Davis.
