Alice Hortense Thornton Denning

Mrs. Alice Hortense Thornton Denning, 91, formerly of the Grantham
Community, died Tuesday at the home of her daughter in Emerald Isle.
A native of Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Marshall
E. Thornton and Ammy Lewis Thornton and was the widow of Andrew
Washington “Wash” Denning. Mrs. Denning was a farm owner in the
Grantham Community and was a member of Jordan’s Chapel Baptist
Church. She was a 50 year member of the Newton Grove Chapter #267
Order of the Easter Star.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral
Home Chapel with Rev. Henry Dollar and Rev. Freddie Braswell
officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.
Mrs. Denning is survived by her children, Alvis Wilson Denning and
wife Mary Lou Hill Denning of Raleigh, Dartha (Dot) Ann Denning
Ingram and husband Cedric Ingram of Emerald Isle, Everette Wayne
Denning and wife Peggy Wynne Denning of Cary, Mary Alice Denning
Jordan and husband H. Leland Jordan of Mount Olive, David Dixon
Denning of Tampa, FL and Margaret Jean Denning Woodlief and husband
Jones D. Woodlief of Roswell, GA; her sister, Handsford Ricks of
Goldsboro; nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Edwin, Durwood, and Guy
Thornton and two sisters, Mildred Thornton Williams and Margueritte
Thornton Blackmon.

Hospice Care, Attn: Sheila Roce, P.O. Box 190, Maysville, NC 28555.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. at
Seymour Funeral Home. |
