Ruth Daly Duke

Goldsboro – Mrs. Ruth Daly Duke, 77, died Friday at the Brian
Center.
A native of Sampson County, she spent her early years in Goldsboro.
She was the daughter of the late George A. and Melissa Benton Daly.
A graduate of Goldsboro High School, she attended Greensboro
College. During World War II, she served in the office of the French
Liaison at the Pentagon. After the war, she returned to Goldsboro
and worked at McLamb Monument Company. Mrs. Duke was a retired
marketing coordinator for the Celanese Corporation in Charlotte for
32 years. She was also a member of Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church
in Charlotte.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Seymour Funeral
Home Chapel with Dr. Glenn Phillips officiating. Burial will follow
at Willow Dale Cemetery.
Mrs. Duke is survived by her husband, William Ben Duke; her son, C.
Frank Jernigan of Charleston, SC; her step-son, William B. Duke Jr.
and wife Lynn of Goldsboro; her step-daughter, Elizabeth Phillips
and husband Dave of Mechanicsville, VA; her grandsons, Joshua
Jernigan of Charleston, SC and Jarred Jernigan of Wilmington; her
step-grandchildren, Carrie M. Mowbray of Richmond, VA, Ethan Duke of
Kent Store, VA, and Erica Duke of Kent Store, VA; her sisters, Mary
Croom of Goldsboro and Marion D. Bell of Mount Olive; and her
brother, George Daly of Clayton. She is also survived by numerous
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Nita Ray and Hazel Ray
Sharpe and her brothers, Fulton Daly and Donald I. “Bill” Daly.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the Eastern
Alzheimer’s Association, 400 Oberlin Rd., Suite 208, Raleigh, NC
27605 or to the charity of one’s choice.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. at
Seymour Funeral Home.
