William David Edwards

Goldsboro – Mr. William David Edwards, 93, of 1213 E. Holly Street,
died Friday evening at his home after a short battle with cancer.
A native of Wayne County, he was the son of the late Richard Elwood
Edwards and Alice Opheilia Rose Edwards and was married for 63 years
to the late Ruth Taylor Edwards. Mr. Edwards was retired
superintendent of Weil’s Fertilizer Company with forty-five years of
service. He was a charter member of St. Luke United Methodist Church
and taught the Wesley Fellowship Sunday School Class for a number of
years and was a member of the Methodist Men.
Mr. Edwards was a member of the Wayne Masonic Lodge #112 A.F. and
A.M., where he served in many capacities including Master of the
Lodge in 1961, trustee of Wayne Lodge, Past District Deputy Grand
Master of the Mason’s in the 16th Masonic District of the Grand
Lodge of A.F. and A.M. of North Carolina. He was also involved with
the Labors of Love to the brothers of Wayne Lodge, he made and
presented gavels to incoming Masters of the Wayne Lodge, and
conducted numerous Masonic funerals. Mr. Edwards was a member of the
Goldsboro Chapter #29 York Rite Masons, Sudan Temple A.A.O.N.O.M.
Shrine, New Bern, NC, Wayne Assembly #46 Order of the Rainbow for
Girls, Goldsboro Chapter #54 Order of the Eastern Star, the
Goldsboro Council #33 York Rite Masons and the Goldsboro Commandry
#26 York Rite Masons.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Luke United
Methodist Church with Rev. Earl Dulaney and Rev. Jean Hood
officiating. Burial with Masonic rites will be in Wayne Memorial
Park.
He is survived by his daughter, Sara Edwards Campbell and husband,
Craig of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Misha Sellers, Hollis Campbell,
Nathan Campbell and Marna Campbell; sister-in-law, Kit Blackburn and
husband, Walter of Fuquay-Varina; and many friends and loving nieces
and nephews.
Mr. Edwards was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Edwards
Sellers, brother, Lennie Lee Edwards; and sisters, Margaret Edwards
Mozingo and Helen Edwards Merritt.

or the charity of one’s choice.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7-9 p.m. at Seymour
Funeral Home and other times at his residence.
