Jarvis Melvin Garris

Goldsboro
- Jarvis M. Garris, 74, went home peacefully to be with his Lord and
Savior on Tuesday, September 23, 2003. He was the son of the late
John and Josie Garris.
He was a retiree of Wayne Memorial Hospital after 37 ½ years. Since
that time, he served as a volunteer at the hospital. Until his
declining health, he was an active member of New Hope Friends
serving as an elder ministering counsel, building committee member,
Sunday School teacher and choir member.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joyce Williams Garris. In
addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Ann G. Smith
and husband Jerry and Sarah G. Lane and husband Ricky of Goldsboro.
He is also survived by three grandchildren, Jeff L. Smith, Susan S.
Stewart and husband Brian of Goldsboro and Amanda L. Bonds and
husband Doug of Greenville and three brothers, John B. Garris, Jr.,
Jack Garris and wife Kathleen, Donald G. Garris and wife Mary all of
Goldsboro, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul E. Garris, Sr., and a
grandson, Ricky Vann Lane II.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Hope Friends music
ministry and/or building fund.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 7:00 PM at New Hope
Friends Church. The family will receive friends following the
service and at other times they will be at the home.
