Velma Howell Gay

Pikeville – Mrs. Velma Howell Gay, 74, of 110 Hardy Talton Road,
died Thursday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
A native of Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Leonard
Howell and Bradie McClenny Howell and was married to the late Cecil
Gay. Mrs. Gay was a long-time employee of Americal.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Pike’s Crossroads
Pentecostal Holiness Church, of which she was a faithful member.
Rev. Timothy Creel will officiate. Burial will be in Pikeville
Cemetery.
Mrs. Gay is survived by her daughters, Betty Jean Reeves and husband
Kent of Pikeville and Diane Massengill and husband Bill of
Goldsboro; her grandchildren, Christy Frazier and husband Jason,
Summer Davis, Paige Reeves and Travis Reeves; her brother, Leland
Howell and wife Brenda of Goldsboro; her sister, Edna Hooks and
husband Edsel of Goldsboro; her sister-in-law, Florence Howell of
Lake Gaston; and her special friend, Marion Radford of Pikeville.
She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Robert Arnold Davis; a
sister, Charlotte Stokes and a brother, Leonard Howell, Jr.
Although flowers are welcome, memorials may be made to Pike’s
Crossroads Pentecostal Holiness Church, 2494 Pikeville-Princeton
Road, Pikeville, NC 27863.
The family will receive friends Saturday following the service at
the Family Life Center of Pike’s Crossroads Pentecostal Holiness
Church and Friday after 4:00 p.m. at her residence.
