Lyda Sasser Grantham

Goldsboro – Mrs. Lyda Sasser Grantham, 89, a lifetime resident of the Rosewood Community, died Wednesday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Pine Forest United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Crane officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Grantham was the daughter of the late John and Minnie Sasser and the widow of Raymond A. Grantham. She is survived by a daughter, Arlene Davis of Rosewood; a son, Raymond Grantham Jr. and wife, La Rue of Memphis, Tenn.; two sisters, Maude Waters of Raleigh and Wilma Casey and husband, Junius of Dudley; a brother, Joseph Sasser and wife, Lib of Raleigh; a sister-in-law, Geraldine Sasser of Topsail Beach. She was a “Special Nana” to her grandchildren, Trudy Hope and husband, Danny, Tracy Jones and husband, Pete, of Rosewood, Robin Todd and Andy Grantham and wife, Tina of Memphis, Tenn.; and her great-grandchildren, Amy Hope, Allen Hope, Summer Jones and Davis Jones of Rosewood, Justin Todd, Lauren Todd, Cody Grantham and Katie Grantham of Memphis, TN. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Alma Sasser, Madie Plott, and Edna Braswell; and her brothers, John Sasser, Jr., Arnold Sasser and Harrison Sasser.

As an active member of the Rosewood Extension Club for over 60 years, she enhanced her love for her garden and many of her other interest. “Miss Lyda” was a lifelong member of Pine Forest United Methodist Church and a 50 year member of the choir. She was recognized in 1998 for 50 years of volunteer work for the American Red Cross. She was an “active participant” in the fair and worked in the antique booth for many years. “Miss Lyda” left a legacy of true values to be treasured by all who knew her.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers, Henry Braswell, Rex Sasser, Rudy Casey, Jackie Waters, Don Waters and Neal Sasser.

The family will receive friends Friday from 5-7 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Danny Hope, 302 Shamrock Road, Goldsboro.
