Edna Earl Clausel Griffin

Mrs. Edna Earl Clausel Griffin died on her 94th birthday, Saturday,
July 6, at her home at The Pines in Goldsboro.
She was the widow of the late A.J. Griffin Jr. Mrs. Griffin
was born in Imboden, Arkansas, the daughter of Mabel Owen Clausel
and Floyd Clausel and was raised on Lookout Mt., Tenn.
After attending Converse College, she came to Goldsboro to visit her
mother on her way to Curtis Institute in Philadelphia to study
opera. While in Goldsboro she met Tom Griffin and she never got to
Pa. They were married in April of 1929.
She sang at many civic meetings in Goldsboro and directed choirs at
First Presbyterian Church and St. Maryıs Catholic Church. Her
community involvements were numerous; president of the Goldsboro
Women's Club, the Garden Club and the Girl Scout Council, and
chairman of the Red Feather
Community Chest.
At St. Stephenıs Episcopal Church she was one of the first women to
serve on the vestry, and president of the Churchwomen.
A memorial service will be held at St. Stephenıs on Tuesday, July 9,
at 11 a.m. The Rev. Eugene Carpenter will officiate.
Mrs. Griffin is survived by four children, Erline Eason of Richmond,
Va., Dr. Ashton Griffin of Goldsboro, Beverly Griffin of Chapel Hill
and Patrick Griffin of Washington, N.C.; 14 grandchildren, 19
great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also
survived by son-in-law, Miller Eason; daughters-in-law, Shirley
Garris Griffin and Jane Bagwell Griffin.
She was preceded in death by her great-grandson, Griffin Miller
Eason.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Stephen's Episcopal
Church, Goldsboro; Kanuga Conference, Inc. (Episcopal Center), P.O.

The Pines, 380 Country Day Road, Goldsboro, N.C. 27530.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Dr. and Mrs.
Ashton Griffin, 403 Reynolda Place, Goldsboro, on Monday, July 8,
from 5 until 9 p.m. |
