Jesse Floyd Grimes

Pikeville
– Mr. Jesse Floyd Grimes, 79, of 579 Fields Road, died Monday at
Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.
Mr. Grimes was born in Harnett County to the late Delma T. Grimes
and Minnie Parrish Grimes. He was a high school teacher in the Wayne
County Public Schools for 34 ½ years, serving 21 years at Charles B.
Aycock High School. Mr. Grimes was a member of Pleasant Grove Free
Will Baptist Church, where he is currently a deacon and long-time
teacher of the Hardy Talton Sunday School Class. He was past master
and served as treasurer for a number of years for the Harmony
Masonic Lodge #340 A.F. & A.M. and was a member of the Scottish
Rite. Mr. Grimes was a veteran of the United States Army-Air Corps
and served during World War II.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Free
Will Baptist Church with Rev. Barry Stallings, Dr. Jerry Stevenson
and Rev. Troy Lee officiating. Burial will follow in the Pikeville
Cemetery with Masonic Rites.
Mr. Grimes is survived by his wife, Ruth Bayles Grimes; his sons,
Jeffrey Miles Grimes of Pikeville and David Thomas Grimes of
Goldsboro; his sister, Christine Grimes Coates of Jacksonville, FL;
and his brothers, Roy Grimes of Newport News, VA and James Delma
Grimes of Coats.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the UDC Scholarship
Fund or to Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church, 1100
Pikeville-Princeton Road, Pikeville, NC 27863.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at
Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
