Aurelia Evans Haney

Aurelia
Evans Haney, of Goldsboro, died at the age of 84 on Friday, October
3, 2003. She was the wife of the late Shaheen S. Haney, also of
Goldsboro.
She had been a resident of Britthaven Nursing Home and a prior
resident of Guardian Care Nursing Home.
A career homemaker, Mrs. Haney involved herself in the community in
numerous ways. She was an active member of the Fidelis Sunday School
Class at First Baptist Church, Goldsboro. Her volunteer work in
Goldsboro included serving with The Salvation Army and The Red
Cross, as well as the Goldsboro Lions Club Auxiliary and the Retired
Officers’ Wives Association. She was also a charter member and
supporter of the Goldsboro YMCA. She served as Residents’
Association President at both Britthaven and Guardian Care nursing
facilities.
Born Aurelia Mary Lois Evans on April 27, 1919 in Gatliff Kentucky,
she grew up in Kingsport, Tennessee. She graduated from Dobyns-Bennett
High School in Kingsport and later attended Lincoln Memorial
University in Middlesboro, Tennessee.
She married Army Air Corps Captain Shaheen S. Haney in Madison
Wisconsin in 1942, just prior to his being sent overseas to serve
during WWII. The couple celebrated their fiftieth wedding
anniversary on December 16, 1992.
Mrs. Haney is survived by her three sons and their families: Dennis
Haney of Marietta, SC , Mike and Helen Haney of Goldsboro and Lance
and Carleen Haney of Beaufort, SC. Her grandchildren are Matt Haney
of Raleigh, Jennifer Haney of Daytona Beach, FL and Jay Haney of
Tokyo, Japan. Surviving brothers and sisters include Raymond (and
Becky) Evans of Lenoir City, TN, Bonnie Ellen McFall of Xenia, OH,
Dorothy Dean of Central, SC and one sister-in-law, Evelyn Evans of
Home, WA.
The family will receive visitors at Seymour Funeral Home on Sunday
afternoon, October 5, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 6, at 10:00 a.m. at
First Baptist Church in Goldsboro. Dr. Glenn Phillips will
officiate. Entombment will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions
be made to First Baptist Church, 125 S. John St., Goldsboro, NC
27530.
Her love and care touched and changed many lives. Her life was a
testimony of her love for Jesus Christ. “Well done, good and
faithful servant.”
