Maurice Clifton Harper

Goldsboro – Mr. Maurice Clifton Harper, 78, died this morning at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

A native of Franklin County, he was the son of the late Elijah Arthur Harper and Lucy Gupton Harper. He worked for many years in the petroleum industry. Mr. Harper was a veteran of World War II. He was known for his large and bountiful garden, his generosity and his love of life. Mr. Harper was a member of Madison Avenue Baptist Church.

No formal services will be scheduled.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nell Upchurch Harper of the home; two daughters, Brenda Harper Ernest of Greenville and Peggy Harper Malpass of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Michael Ernest of Greenville, Lucy Wilcox of Wilmington and Aaron Wilcox of Wilmington; a great-grandson, Galen Wilcox of Wilmington; two sisters, Nellie Marshall and Bonnie Harper, both of Louisburg; many nieces and nephews; and special family members, Mike Ernest of Tampa, Florida, Paul Malpass of Goldsboro and Tom Cat of the home.

The family requests no flowers and memorials be made to Forgotten Patient Fund, Cherry Hospital, Attn: Special Services, 201 Stevens Mill Road, Goldsboro, NC 27530.
