Darwin Earl Herring


Goldsboro – Mr. Darwin Earl Herring, 58, died Tuesday, after a lengthy illness, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

A native of Wayne County, he was the son of the late Lillie Dawson Herring and Leslie Jackson Herring. Mr. Herring was a retired tobacconist and was a member of St. John Free Will Baptist Church. He became an avid horseman, beginning in his early childhood under the guidance of his father. He later bred and exhibited show horses including several that became world champions.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wade Parker and Rev. Jerry Mitchell officiating. A private family interment will be Thursday at Wayne Memorial Park.

Mr. Herring is survived by his wife of 36 years, Betsy Kennedy Herring; his sons, Scott Forrest Herring and his wife, Andrea of Goldsboro and Mark Leslie Herring and his friend, Andrea Hardison of Goldsboro; sisters, Janet H. Early and her husband, Jay of Cary and Cindy Minchew and her husband, Jay of Goldsboro; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Bethena and Russell Kennedy of Goldsboro; brother-in-law, Dean Kennedy and wife, Brenda of Goldsboro; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Herring was preceded in death by his brothers, Doug Herring, Louis Herring and Warren Herring.
