Esten Lewis Herring, Sr.

 

Goldsboro – Mr. Esten Lewis Herring, Sr., 95, of 383 Herring Road, died Sunday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

A native of Wayne County, he was the son of the late Victor G. Herring, Sr. and Lollie Lewis Herring and was married to the late Gladys Williams Herring. Mr. Herring was a retired farmer and miller. He was a member of Providence United Methodist Church and the Men’s Sunday School Class.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Providence United Methodist Church with Rev. Arthur Warren officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his sons, Esten Lewis Herring, Jr., Gerald Keith Herring, Sr. and James Lamont Herring, all of Goldsboro; a daughter, Mary Ann Herring of Goldsboro; sisters, Nellie Mac Herring of Greenville and Judith Herring of Alabama; a brother, Donald Herring of Goldsboro, 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Herring was preceded in death by a son, John Roger Herring.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers and the Providence United Methodist Church Men’s Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Monday at Seymour Funeral Home from 7-9 p.m. and other times at his residence.
