James Wesley Hicks, Jr.

- Rev. James Wesley “Jimmy” Hicks, Jr., 67, of 3730 Salem Church
Road, died Thursday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
A native of Wayne County, Rev. Hicks was the son of Juanita Williams
Hicks of Goldsboro and the late James Wesley Hicks, Sr. He was a
United States Army Veteran of the Korean War and was a retired
Methodist minister with 33 years of service to the Lord. He had
served the following churches including: Elizabeth United Methodist
Church in Smithfield, Bethel-Rones Chapel United Methodist Church in
Mount Olive, Pine Forest United Methodist Church in Rosewood,
Newland-Grace United Methodist Church in Elizabeth City, Hookerton
United Methodist Church in Hookerton and Stantonsburg United
Methodist Church in Stantonsburg.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mount Carmel United
Methodist Church with Rev. Gerald Massey and Rev. Wayne Hicks
officiating. Burial will follow in the Pikeville Cemetery.
In addition to his mother, Rev. Hicks is survived by his wife, Ruby
Lancaster Hicks; his children, Vickie Pate and husband, Glenn of
Pikeville, Janice Sasser and husband, Glenn of Goldsboro, Norma
Braswell and husband, Scott of Goldsboro and James Hicks and wife,
Pam of Hookerton; brother, Donald Hicks of Goldsboro; a sister, Joan
Kearney and husband, Ronnie of Goldsboro; seven grandchildren, David
Pate and wife, Tabitha, Jennifer Lane and husband, Jonathan,
Christie Kelley, Michelle Boyette and husband, Daniel, Joseph
Braswell, Wesley Hicks and Michael Hicks; four step-grandchildren,
Glenn Sasser, Jr., Angela Sasser, Wendy Murphy and Crystal Murphy
and two great-grandchildren, Makayla Kelley and Hailey Boyette.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Robin Kelley.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mount Carmel United
Methodist Church, 610 Mount Carmel Church Road, Pikeville, NC 27863.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7-9 p.m. at Seymour
Funeral Home and other times at the residence. |
