Elaine Lucas Hill

Mrs. Elaine Lucas Hill, 74, of 101 Newsome Rd., died Monday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

A native of Wilson County, she was the daughter of the late Sidney Lucas and Susan Barnes Lucas and was a loving and devoted wife and mother. Mrs. Hill and her late husband, Simon B. Hill, owned and operated the Open Air Market for over 40 years, and founded and operated the Farmer’s Tobacco Warehouse. She was president of Hill’s Beef and Pork Center and was active in farming in Eastern Wayne County.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Harold Heath officiating. Interment will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Hill Family Cemetery.

Mrs. Hill is survived by her daughter, Sarah Bonnie Hill of Goldsboro; her sons, Simon Rudy Hill and wife, Donna of Goldsboro, Carl B. Hill and wife Kay of Goldsboro and Gary M. Hill and wife Cherry of Goldsboro; her sisters, Judy Lamm and husband Sanford of Wilson, Leatha Batchelor of Sharpsburg and Hazel Batchelor and husband Junior of Lucama; her grandchildren, Ashley Thompson, Dava Anderson, Angela Hill, Tracy Hill, Jonathan Hill, Carla Hudson, Simon Hill, Gary Hill, Jr., Gina Hill, Braxton Brickhouse; and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ashley Thompson, Don Lamm, Merrill Lamm, Delvin Benton, Robert Toney and Leland “Buddy” Strickland.

The family will receive friends following the service on Wednesday at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at her home.
