Robert David Hine

Goldsboro – Lt. Col. Robert David Hine (USAF Retired), 71, of 807 S. Madison Ave. died Tuesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Born in West Carthage, NY, he was the son of the late John Hine and Ruth Williams Hine. Lt. Col. Hine proudly served in the United States Air Force for 23 years upon retiring in 1973. He served in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. After retiring from the U.S. Air Force, he owned and operated Services Unlimited until 1995 with his oldest son, Robert David Hine Jr., producing high quality custom cabinetry and making small home repairs. In addition to his military service, he was a devoted husband and caring father.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Shirley Gregory Hine; two sons and daughter-in-law, Robert David Hine Jr. of Goldsboro and Kevin Anthony Hine and wife, Melody Wells Hine of Wallace; a daughter and son-in-law, Melanie Hine Arnold and husband, Thurston Wade Arnold Jr. of Rocky Mount; a daughter-in-law, Margaret Reeves Brown of Raleigh; eight grandchildren, David Wade Arnold, Melissa Anne Arnold, Robert Thurston Arnold, Megan Leigh Hine, Emily Anne Hine, Christopher Taylor Hine, Stepheny Grey Hine, and Jacqueline Ruth Hine; his mother-in-law, Clara Black Gregory; his brothers, Edward Hine and Peter Hine; his sister, Ellie Sargent; and his sisters-in-law, Janice Gregory Peterson and Jacqueline Gregory Adler.

Lt. Col. Hine was preceded in death by his son, Stephen Michael Hine; his brothers, John Hine and Richard Hine; and his sisters, Phila Shaffner and Christine Wallace.

Graveside services with full military honors will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Willow Dale Cemetery.
