Joe Hollis

Goldsboro - Mr. Joe Hollis, of 731 Buck Swamp Road, died Sunday, December 21, 2003 at the Kitty Askins Hospice Center. A native of Martin County, he was the son of the late William Joseph Hollis, and Olivia Jeanettie Ange Hollis and the widower of Velma Holliday Hollis. Mr. Hollis was retired manager of Scott Motor Company and had worked for Deacon Jones Buick Pontiac of Smithfield. He was a member of Love Memorial Baptist Church and was a Army veteran of WWII.

Funeral services were Tuesday, December 23, 2003 at 7 P. M. at Love Memorial Baptist Church. The family will receive friends following the service. Rev. Mike Dixon, Rev. Gene Warrick, and Rev. Dave Fishman will officiate. Interment was Wednesday, December 24, 2003 at 10 A. M. at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Surviving: daughters, Nettie H. Holmes and husband Kenneth, Dawn H. Summerlin, Melanie H. Thompson and husband Larry, and Sandra H. Gurley and husband Roland, all of Goldsboro; son, Billy W. Hollis of Fremont; grandchildren, Jay Rollins, Pam Pike, Michelle McGarry, Mark Holmes, Keith Holmes, Tara Bass, Amanda Thompson, Holly Lewis, Niki Gurley, Angela Hollis, and Christopher Hollis; great-grandchildren, Dustin Pike, Brandon Pike, Brandy Holmes, Rebecca Holmes, Elizabeth Mitchell, Rachel Taylor, Michelle Meador, Turner Bass, and Nicholas Lewis; sister, Lydia Lenora Hux of Rocky Mount.

Mr. Hollis was preceded in death by two brothers, William Earl Hollis and Guilford Herman Hollis.
