Thurman Kleuytenburg Holmes

Goldsboro – Mr. Thurman Kleuytenburg Holmes, 84, of the Pines died
Friday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
A native of Wayne County, he was the son of the late John William
Holmes and Mittie Edith Grady Holmes and was married to the late
Josephine Grady Holmes. Mr. Holmes retired in 1979 as a high school
principal and teacher having served in Wayne, Nash and Moore
Counties. He served in the United States Air Force and was a veteran
of World War II. Mr. Holmes was a member of the Phi Delta Gamma
Fraternity and enjoyed UNC sports, gardening and traveling.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 6 p.m. at Rosewood First
Baptist Church, of which he was an active member, with Rev. E.C.
Mattocks and Rev. Vernon Braswell officiating. Interment will be
Monday at 11 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Holmes is survived by his daughters, Hillary Smith and husband,
Keith of Goldsboro and Betty Jo Moore and husband, Jeff of
Goldsboro; brother, Loren Holmes of Hialeah, FL; a sister, Nell Peck
of Goldsboro; granchildren, Derrick Smith, David Smith, Jeffery
Moore and Mary Jo Moore; and a great-granddaughter, Hannah Smith.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Atwood Holmes, Wilber
Holmes, Malcolm Holmes, John Holmes and Nerius Holmes and sisters,
Bula Price, Sula Dilorenzo, Hepsie Price and Rosena Lewis.
Although flowers are welcome, memorials may be made to Rosewood
First Baptist Church Building Fund, 5566 NC Hwy. 581 South,
Goldsboro, NC 27530.
The family will receive friends Saturday immediately following the
service and other times at the family residence, 932 Rosewood Road,
Goldsboro.e was preceded in death by a sister, Otena Quinn.
