Richard Cole Jacobs


Goldsboro, NC – Richard Cole "Jake" Jacobs, 50, of Goldsboro died Tuesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

A native of Goldsboro, NC, he was a graduate of the NCSU School of Design and was an independent contractor. Mr. Jacobs served in the United States Army and was one of the original members of the Buck Swamp Kicking Cloggers. He was a member of the Intercollegiate Soccer Officials Association for over 20 years, and was a National Soccer Referee since 1996. He was a High School Referee for over 20 years in the Eastern Plains Referee Association. He was also a State 1 Referee in the North Carolina State Referee’s Association.

A memorial service will be held Friday, May 10, 2002, at 11 a.m. at New Hope United Methodist Church, where he attended. Rev. Hunter Preston will officiate. The family will remain following the service to greet friends in the church fellowship hall.

He is survived by his wife, Lainey, son, Ian Cole of Goldsboro and a daughter, Anna Louise of Goldsboro. His parents, Cole and Mary Lloyd Jacobs of Goldsboro; twin sister, Debbie Gray of Raleigh; brothers, David of Mount Olive, Ron of Goldsboro, and Develon "Jake" of Greenville; his brother-in-law, Jeff Whitener of Goldsboro; and sisters-in-law, Cindy Shaw of Blowing Rock and Lou Whitener of Philadelphia, PA.

The family will receive friends Thursday, May 9, 2002, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the home of Cole and Mary Lloyd Jacobs, 121 Hood Drive, Goldsboro.
