James Phillip Jones


Pikeville – Surrounded by family, James Phillip “Phil” Jones, 48, of 772 Gurley Dairy Road, passed away June 4, 2003 at North Carolina Memorial Hospital at Chapel Hill after a courageous battle with Leukemia. Phil will always be lovingly remembered by his family and friends for his quick wit and love for music. 

A native of Wayne County, he was the son of Kathryn Weeks Edgerton of Nahunta and the late Claxton Jones. Mr. Jones had worked with Firestone in Wilson.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Whitley Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Ferrell Hardison and Rev. Andy Stovall officiating. Burial will follow in the Princeton Cemetery.

In addition to his mother, Mr. Jones is survived by his daughter, Emily Lassiter and husband, Chris of Pikeville; a son, Jonathan Jones of the home; his step-father, Ben R. Edgerton; his sisters, Shirley Davis and husband, Ronnie of Rosewood and Gail Newell and husband, Dale of Pikeville; his brothers, Mike Jones and wife, Lisa of Pikeville and Eugene Jones and wife, Beth of Rosewood; his step-brother, Daryl Edgerton of Princeton; his step-sister, Angie Chapman and husband, Jeff of Pigeon Forge, TN. Special memories of his granddaughter “little red” will always be cherished. Cassandra was always the light of her Papa’s life. He is also survived by his friend and mother of his children, Rhonda Jones and by his loving nieces and nephews, Christy Price, Joy Thompson, Robert Davis, Tammy Daw, Brittany Jones, Brooke Newell, Eric Jones and Bryan Jones; and his special friends, Larry Lassiter, Carl Peele, and Billy Bob Arbeau.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the Jonathan Jones Education Fund, in care of BB&T, Princeton, NC 27569.

Pallbearers will be Danny Ray Langston, Carl Peele, Billy Bob Arbeau, Larry Lassiter, Johnny Ray Pierce and James Jones.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7-9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the home of Kathryn and Ben Edgerton, 2866 N.C. 581 North, Fremont.
