William Alpheus Jones

Pikeville – Mr. William Alpheus Jones, 84, 111 Railroad Street, died
Monday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
A native of Wayne County, he was the son of the late William Henry
and Lela Bowden Jones and was married to the late Colleen Howell
Jones. He was owner and operator of Pikeville Feed Mill until 1982.
He was Past Master of Harmony Lodge # 340 A.F. & A.M. and served as
secretary for a number of years. Mr. Jones was a member of the
Pikeville Junior Order. He was former mayor of Pikeville and served
as alderman for the Town of Pikeville for a number of years and and
had been an active member of the Pikeville Fire Department. He was a
deacon of Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church where he had
served as Sunday School Superintendent for several years. He was
choir director for over fifty years.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2:00 P.M. at Pleasant Grove
Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Alvin Keener officiating. Burial
will follow in the Pikeville Cemetery with Masonic Rites.
Mr. Jones is survived by his daughter, Edith J. Futrell and husband
Bobby of Pikeville; two grandchildren, William L. Futrell and wife
Tracy of Rocky Mount and Jerry L. Futrell and wife Carol of Dudley;
four great-grandchildren, Chad Brogden, Lorenda Brogden, Anthony
Brogden and Andrew Futrell; two brothers, Rudolph Jones of Pine
Level and June Ronald Jones of Mebane.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Pearl J. Best and Lillie Mae
Pender and a brother, Oscar Jones.
Memorials may be made to Cragmont Assembly, 1233 N. Fort Road, Black
Mountain, NC 28711.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at
Seymour Funeral Home and at other times at 345 Lancaster Road,
Pikeville, NC.
