Elizabeth Parker Kern

Durham – Mrs. Elizabeth Parker Kern, 89, died Monday at the Forest
at Duke.
Mrs. Kern was born May 5, 1913 in Magnolia, NC to the late Edward
Larkin Parker and Margaret Pearl Elmore Parker and was married for
56 years to the late Dr. Donald Warren Kern. She graduated from
Grantham High School and was a graduate of Chowan College. Mrs. Kern
received her Masters of Science and 6 year certificate from
Bridgeport University, Bridgeport, Connecticutt. Mrs. Kern taught
school for 31 years in Pikeville, NC; in New Jersey and in
Connecticutt.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Falling Creek
Baptist Church with Rev. Jean Hood officiating. Burial will follow
in the church cemetery. The family will remain following the service
to receive family and friends.
Mrs. Kern is survived by her daughters, Margaret K. Hamilton and
Donna K. Weese and husband, Arthur; a son, William Kern and wife,
Hope; her grandchildren, Paul Kern and wife, Tami and Bonnie Jean
Kern; and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her
sister, Edna P. Hood.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Norwood Parker, Hallie
Parker, Robert Parker, Emulon Parker and Rev. John Parker.
