Homer Mathew Knowles, Jr.

Homer Mathew (H.M.) Knowles, Jr., 59, of 102 Hilldale Lane, died today with his wife and daughter at his side following a brave battle with cancer. He was born January 9, 1944, to Homer Mathew Knowles, Sr. and Eloise Holloman Knowles in Calypso, North Carolina. He served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War and returned to Goldsboro where he owned and operated Knowles Carpet, Inc., for over thirty years. He was also a member of the Goldsboro Elks Lodge #139 B.P.O.E.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Migeon Helms Knowles of the home; a daughter, Kelly Helms Knowles of Washington, D.C.; a sister, Betty Shifflett and her husband Bob of Goldsboro; as well as nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Donna Delores Knowles.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in their home at 102 Hilldale Lane in Goldsboro. A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park in Goldsboro with Bill Gardner officiating.
