John James Lavin

Goldsboro – John James Lavin, 74, of 218 Pinewood Drive, died
Wednesday morning at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
A native of Wayne County, he was the son of the late James Henry
Lavin and Sarah Jane Chisholm Lavin. He was retired from the United
States Air Force and Wayne Memorial Hospital. Mr. Lavin was a member
of New Hope United Methodist Church, Goldsboro Masonic Lodge #634
A.F.&A.M., where he was past Master and was a 32nd degree Mason,
Scottish and York Rite. He was also a member of many other civic
organizations, including Goldsboro Elks Lodge #139.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Seymour
Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverends Hunter Preston and Arthur
Warren officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites and military honors
will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.
He is survived by his wife, Aline Ezzell Lavin; daughters, Pat
Bevell and husband, Gary, Cindy Benton and husband, Tommy; son, John
Lavin and wife, Teri; grandchildren, Tonia Harrison, Tamara Toner
and husband, Terry, Amanda Hampton and husband, Heath, Mandy
Thompson, Jami Lavin, Kenneth Turlington and wife, Ashly and Jason
Turlington; step-grandchildren, LaTashia Schwarting and husband,
Chris, Charles (C.J.) Benton, Lorenda Overman and husband, Harrell,
Dale Bevell and wife, Laura and Dwayne Bevell;
step-great-grandchildren, Ashtan D. Howell, Alex T. Schwarting, Beth
Overman, Betsy Overman, Dave Overman, Ryan Bevell and Joshua Bevell;
sisters, Christina A. Resta and husband, Ben and Margaret Thurston;
sisters-in-law, Doris E. Graham, Annette Thayer, Alice Ezzell and
Marie Ezzell; and 28 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law and father-in-law,
Carrie Babe Ezzell and Allen Ezzell; sisters-in-law, Bernice Ezzell
Davis and Nadine Ezzell; and brothers-in-law, Jack Ezzell, D.J.
Ezzell, Bill Graham, Charles
(Buddy) Thayer and Billy Thurston.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the American Cancer
Society, PO Box 921, Goldsboro, NC 27533.
The family will receive friends Friday at Seymour Funeral Home from
7:00 – 9:00 p.m. and other times at the residence.
