Mathie Coolidge Lewis

Fremont – Mr. Mathie Coolidge “Mack” Lewis, 79, of 205 Dock Street, died Monday at his home.

A native of Nash County, he was the son of the late Joseph Henry Lewis and Della Boykin Lewis. Mr. Lewis worked as a salesman with Tom’s Snacks and was a member of Heritage Free Will Baptist Church. He was a veteran of United States Army serving in the First Infantry Division during World War II in the invasion on Normandy. Mr. Lewis was a member of the American Legion #184 in Fremont and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He had a love for music and had performed at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville with Roy Acuff.

A service to remember Mack’s life will be held Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. at Heritage Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. A.C. Morgan officiating.

Mr. Lewis is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Benson Lewis; his sons, Mathie Douglas Lewis of Lowell, MA and Lucky Lewis of Fremont; his daughter, Esther L. Coker of Fremont; and his grandchildren, Alton Coker, Jr. and Rebecca Coker of Kenly.

The family will greet friends following the service Wednesday at Heritage Free Will Baptist Church.
