David O. Lingle

Goldsboro – Mr. David O. Lingle, 81, of 107 Powers Court, died
Wednesday at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
A native of Lewistown, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late
Norman L. and Mary Stuck Lingle and was married to the late Amelia
Savage Lingle. Mr. Lingle was the former owner of the Home Builders
Supply Company and had served in the United States Marines during
World War II. He attended and graduated from Dartmouth College and
played minor league baseball with the Boston Red Sox. Mr. Lingle
also played baseball with the Goldsboro Goldbugs and was very active
in scouting, where he coached Cub Scout softball.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at St. Paul United
Methodist Church, of which he was a member, on Saturday, May 22,
2004 at 11:00 a.m. The family will greet friends following the
service in the church parlor and also Friday evening at the
residence. Burial will follow in Willow Dale Cemetery.
Mr. Lingle is survived by his daughters, Donna Lingle Ray of Raleigh
and Barbara Lingle Honeycutt and husband Brooks Honeycutt, Jr. of
Wilson; his grandsons, Brooks Honeycutt III and William David
Honeycutt; his sister, Doris Gross of Lewistown, PA; and his
brother, Norman Lingle of Akron, OH.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Bob Lingle.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul United
Methodist Church, 204 E. Chestnut Street, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
