Michael Jason Lugo

Pikeville – Mr. Michael Jason Lugo, 17, of 6008 Fort Run Road, died Monday from injuries received in an automobile accident.

Michael was born at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Hospital to TSGT Michael Raymond Lugo and Sandra Kaye Johnson Lugo. He was a senior at Eastern Wayne High School and was also participating in the jump start program at Wayne Community College. Michael was recently recognized as a finalist for the North Carolina Teaching Fellows. While at Eastern Wayne, Michael lettered his junior year in track. He was a member of the First Assembly of God, where he was involved in the Power House Youth Ministry and the Youth Band. Michael was currently working as an assistant teacher with the K-4 program at Carter Christian Academy and Daycare.

A celebration of Michael’s life will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at First Assembly of God with Pastor Ralph Painter and Youth Pastor Terry Gainer officiating. Entombment will be at Wayne Memorial Park.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister, Angelina Louise Lugo of the home; his brother, Joseph Ross Lugo of the home; maternal grandparents, Gail and Louise Johnson of Dudley; paternal grandparents, Michael P. Lugo of Aurora, IL and Angeline Lugo of Oak Forest, IL; a number of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7-9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
