Zora Welch Melton

Goldsboro – Mrs. Zora Welch Melton, 97, of 2710 Langston Drive, died Thursday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

A native of Chatham County, she was the daughter of the late John Seaton Welch and Zora Upchurch Welch and was the widow of Allie James Melton, Sr. Mrs. Melton was a very active member of First Baptist Church, where she was active in the Woman’s Missionary Union and where she taught Sunday school for a number of years. She was a graduate of Buies Creek Academy and taught in public schools following graduation.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Goldsboro with Dr. Glenn Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Mrs. Melton is survived by her son, Allie James Melton, Jr. and wife, Edna Holloman Melton of Goldsboro; her daughter, Agnes Melton Cobb and husband, Marvin Z. Cobb of Farmville; two sisters, Lina Welch Dowd of Apex and Ada Welch Landolph of Springfield, PA; a brother, William “Bill” Welch of Durham; and four grandchildren, Miles Melton and wife, Sandra of Fuquay-Varina, Brent Melton and wife, Lisa of Raleigh, Walter “Walt” Cobb and wife, Debbie of Winterville and Kirk Cobb and wife, Laine of Farmville; and four great-grandchildren, Chad Melton, Tanner Melton, Joshua Cobb and Nolan Cobb; and four step-great-grandchildren, Chris Aycock and Kimberly Aycock Gross, both of Raleigh, Misty Peaden of Winterville and Tracy Rybun of Greenville.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. in the church parlor of First Baptist Church in Goldsboro.
