John David Mitchell

Goldsboro – Rev. John David “J.D.” Mitchell, 72, of 120 Ebenezer Church Road, died Thursday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

A native of Wayne County, he was the son of the late Willie M. Mitchell and Indiana Howell Mitchell. Rev. Mitchell was a retired Methodist minister and was a member of St. Patricks Lodge #617 A.F. & A.M.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jean Hood, Rev. John Roberts and Rev. Rose Hicks officiating. Burial will follow with Masonic rites in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Mitchell is survived by his wife, Helen Wortham Mitchell; his children, Billy Mitchell and wife, Kathy of Pittsboro, Betty Jo Dent and husband, Tommy of Fayetteville, Bob Mitchell and wife, April of Kenansville and Brian Mitchell and wife, Suzanne of Goldsboro; and his grandchildren, Barton Mitchell and wife, Marion, Jonathan Dent, Christopher Mitchell, Erin Haines, Catherine Mitchell, Leslie Dent, Benjamin Haines, Alison Mitchell, Luke Mitchell, Phillip Mitchell and Ben Mitchell.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 7-9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at his residence.
