Laulas Smith Newsome

Goldsboro -- Mrs. Laulas Smith Newsome, 88, died Sunday at Wayne Memorial Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Johnny and Nora Gurley Smith. Mrs. Newsome was a member of Woods Grove Pentecostal Freewill Baptist Church and former General Electric employee.

Funeral services will be 7:00 PM Tuesday at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Grady and Rev. Reynolds Smith officiating. Interment will be 11 AM Wednesday at Wayne Memorial Park.

Surviving: husband, John D. Newsome; daughter, Novella Zambelli and husband Johnny of Goldsboro; sons, Billy Ray Newsome and wife Margaret of Goldsboro, Eddis L. Newsome and wife Jean of Wilmington, and John William Newsome and wife Libby of Goldsboro; sisters, Mabel Coker of La Grange, Ava Faircloth of Snow Hill, Nora Ann Edmundson, Vernell Quinn, and Esther Casey all of Goldsboro; brothers, James E. “Shine” Smith and Joe William Smith both of Goldsboro; ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Newsome was preceded in death by a sister, Sarah Davis and two brothers, Robert L. Smith, Sr. and Rex Smith.

The family will receive friends following the funeral service and at other times at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ray Daniels, 219 Hardingwood Dr., Goldsboro, N. C.
