Norwood Lee Pate

Pikeville – Mr. Norwood Lee “Sam” Pate, 76, of 1630 Mount Carmel Church Road, died Friday at his home.

Mr. Sam Pate was the son of the late Jeff Pate and Octavia Kirby Pate and was retired from Sears with 35 years of service in shipping and receiving department. He was a member of Free Chapel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church and the Patetown Volunteer Fire Department.

Funeral services will be Sunday at 6 p.m. at Free Chapel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Frueler officiating. Interment will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Pate is survived by his wife, Eleanor “Sissy” Smith Pate; his daughters, Phyllis Edgerton and husband David of Pinkney and Pam Pate of Pikeville; his grandchildren, Will Edgerton, Carrie Ann Ingram and Justin Ray Ingram; his sister, Margaret “Pete” Sasser of Goldsboro; and thirty-three special nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Nina Gardner, Lila Pate, Effie Sauls, Patty Byrd, Letha Crocker and Elizabeth “Bet” Pate and his brothers, Jessie Pate, Joe Pate and Bill Pate.

The family will receive friends Sunday following the service at the church and other times at the residence.
