John “Tommy” Rains

Goldsboro – John “Tommy” Rains, 71, of 1776 Old Smithfield Road, died Wednesday at Johnston County Memorial Hospital.

A retired farmer and Atlantic Coastline Railroad worker, he was the son of the late John Henry Rains and Leona Bridgers Rains. Mr. Rains was a member of Antioch Presbyterian Church. Mr. Rains had also served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Al Harrington and Rev. Lewis Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

He is survived by his wife, Eunice Jernigan Rains; daughters, Beverly Rains of Pikeville, Vickie Howell and husband, Jerry and Jill Davis all of Goldsboro; son, Tim Rains of Goldsboro; sister, Thelma Martin of Goldsboro; and granddaughter, Haley Howell.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Dalma Rains.

The family will receive friends Friday at Seymour Funeral Home from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. and other times at the residence.
