Gladys Morton Roe

Goldsboro – Mrs. Gladys Morton Roe, 85, 610 S. Claiborne Street, died Sunday at her home.

Mrs. Roe was born in Albemarle, NC, the daughter of the late Boston L. Morton and Lucy Howard Morton. She grew up in Asheville, NC where she graduated from Lee Edwards High School in 1935. Mrs. Roe met and married the late James F. Roe, Jr. from Asheville. Following his discharge from the United States Air Force, they came to Goldsboro where Mr. Roe was business and circulation manager with the Goldsboro News-Argus until his retirement.

Mrs. Roe was a charter member of Madison Avenue Baptist Church and for many years she assisted the volunteers at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in their food ministry.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park with Rev. David Fishman officiating.

Mrs. Roe is survived by her beloved granddaughter, Elizabeth Barrett Simmons of the home; her daughter, Jane Roe Kimery and husband, Robert of Charlotte; a devoted friend and companion, Edmund Crocker of Goldsboro, along with several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the residence.
