James E. Rollins

Goldsboro – Mr. James E. “Jimmy” Rollins, 83, died on February 7, 2003 at Wayne Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

He was born in Chatham County to the late Thomas Gaston Rollins and Lena Lasater Rollins and graduated from Apex High School and North Carolina State University. He served as Assistant County Agent in charge of poultry in Wilkes County before purchasing Wayne Hatchery and moving to Goldsboro in December, 1944. He was co-owner of Farmers Supply Company and then established Rollins Appliance Center which he operated until his retirement December 31, 1983. He later worked part-time for Crawford Appliance in Goldsboro.

Mr. Rollins was a charter member of St. Luke United Methodist Church where he had served as Chairman of the Administrative Board as well as various other committees. He was a member of United Methodist Men and Wesley Fellowship Class where he had served as a Sunday school teacher.

Mr. Rollins was active in community affairs. He served on the Goldsboro City Council for two terms. He was a 60 year member and a Melvin Jones Fellow of the Lions Club. He had served as President, Secretary, and Treasurer of the Goldsboro Host Lions Club.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Louise Baker Rollins; a daughter, Harriet Rollins Flowers of Fayetteville and her husband Bill; a son, Thomas James Rollins of Raleigh and his wife Ann; five grandchildren, Creighton Flowers of Greenville, Cameron Flowers of Fayetteville, and Charlotte, Michelle, and Matthew Rollins of Raleigh, and two sisters, Nancy Rollins Wilson of Charlotte and Lillian Rollins Bloodworth of Sparta.

Visitation will be held Sunday from 4-6 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at St. Luke United Methodist Church at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, February 10, 2003. Rev. Earl Dulaney will officiate. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.
