L. J. Sasser


Goldsboro – Mr. L.J. Sasser, 72, of 509 Forest Hill Drive, died Thursday at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.

A native of Wayne County, he was the son of the late Jesse Clarence Sasser and Lillian Wadsworth Sasser. Mr. Sasser owned and operated Sasser Furniture in downtown Goldsboro for 42 years. He was Past Master of Goldsboro Lodge # 634 A.F.&A.M. and was also a member of the Sudan Temple in New Bern and the Wayne County Shrine Club. Mr. Sasser was a charter member of Rosewood First Baptist Church and was a veteran of the United States Army.

Funeral services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Rosewood First Baptist Church with Rev. E.C. Mattocks, Rev. Vernon Braswell and Rev. Keith Rouse officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Sasser is survived by his wife, Lorraine Edwards Sasser; a daughter, Sharon Sasser Hawkins and husband, Richard (Dickie) of Kinston; a granddaughter, Jentry Hawkins (age 21), two grandsons, Tanner Hawkins (age 19) and Corbin Hawkins (age 9); sisters, Ruth Davis, Carolyn Braswell and husband, Henry, Marjorie Forbes, Johnnie Amburn and husband, Bud, all of Rosewood; and two brothers, Jesse Paul Sasser and wife, Peggy and Eugene Sasser, both of Goldsboro.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:30-9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
