Eunice Lancaster Smith


Pikeville – Mrs. Eunice Lancaster Smith, 78, a resident of Countryside Living, died Saturday at Lenoir Memorial Hospital.

A native of Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Paul Handley Lancaster and Lillian Mariah Killette Lancaster and was married to the late Johnnie Durwood "Smoke" Smith.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Mount Nelson Baptist Church, of which she was a member, with Rev. Jim Medlin officiating. Burial will follow in the Lancaster Family Cemetery in Patetown.

She is survived by her daughter, Dale Smith Williams and husband, Melvin of Pikeville; sons, Durwood Smith and wife, June of Pikeville, Rex G. Smith and wife, Nancy of Goldsboro and Brooks Smith and wife, Terry of Stantonsburg; twelve grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; four sisters, Ivor L. Mooring of Goldsboro, Hilda G. Godwin of Pikeville, Alease Sanders of Jacksonville and Shirley Corbett of Pikeville; and a brother, George H. Lancaster of Jacksonville.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the home of Durwood and June Smith, 2830 Antioch Road, Pikeville.
