John Clifton Smith

Goldsboro – Mr. John Clifton Smith, 82, of 273 Church of God Road, died Sunday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

A native of Wayne County, Mr. Smith was the son of the late John O. Smith and Maude Tyndall Smith. He was a retired farmer in the Patetown Community and was a member of Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church. Mr. Smith served in the United States Army during World War II in the invasion of North Africa and Italy.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. from Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Bailey and Rev. Barry Williams officiating. Interment will be Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. in Wayne Memorial Park.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Emma Cole Smith; his daughter, Anne Gray of Snow Hill; his son, Gary Cole Smith and wife, Ann of Kinston; his sister, Doris Hicks of Pikeville; his brother, Durwood Smith of Patetown; three grandchildren, Lisa Grant and husband Roger from Snow Hill, Tammy Chavis and husband Ricky of Steadman, NC and Brandi Smith of Raleigh ; and three great-grandchildren, Ashley Grant, Deric Grant and Jennifer Chavis.

The family will receive friends at Seymour Funeral Home following the service and other times at the home of Anne Gray, 71 Bradford Lane, Snow Hill.
